Eating Out – Thousand Spices Indian Restaurant, Wallan

It’s a hard job but somebody has to do it.  That’s right, we’re dining out just so we can review our local eateries for you.

We know that even though you come to Annie’s Cedar Farm Cottages to relax and enjoy a country retreat, good food is part of the whole experience.  In nearby Wallan you will be spoilt for choice when it comes to dining out.

Steve and I chose to dine at Thousand Spices Indian Restaurant and what a surprise it was.  We love Indian food but some of the suburban and country restaurants just don’t meet the same standards that you find in the city.  Thousand Spices Indian Restaurant is different.  It is really, really good.

The food was excellent and served piping hot and in good time.  We started with the samosa because it’s easy to tell good one from bad.  It was very tasty.  The pastry was crunchy and the filling was soft and spicy.  We also tasted the Seekh Kebab.  It was slightly too salty for our tastes, but the spices were beautiful and the meat was moist and tender.  It’s so easy to overcook kebabs, isn’t it?

For the mains we chose Beef Vindaloo and Chicken Korma, two classic dishes of Indian cuisine. The meats were beautifully cooked and there was a generous amount of the delicious sauces which we mopped up with naan bread, hot from the oven. The menu is quite extensive and includes fish and vegetarian meals.  In fact, you can even order crayfish and crab.  (Well, with an Indian twist)

The restaurant is very modern and spacious with elegant decor and a relaxing atmosphere.  The staff were excellent.  They made us feel welcome and made sure that we were cared for throughout the evening.

Thousand Spices Indian Restaurant is fully licensed and also offers takeaway.  To our surprise the dine in prices were very similar to the takeaway which made it an affordable way to eat out.

We loved this restaurant.  It’s only a few minutes from our cottages and the quality of the food and service is amazing.

You’ll find the restaurant at 63 High Street, Wallan, and you can book a table by calling 03 5783 3881.

Of course you know what this means, don’t you?  We’ll have to keep going back there – just to make sure they keep the standard up, of course.  Research purposes only…..
