What’s to Eat in the Wallan Area?

I know that people sometimes worry that when they leave the city behind, they’ll find themselves in a world with no decent food or wine available. You’ll be very pleased to know that we are surrounded by some excellent places to eat.

In Wallan you can dine at Hogans, the local cafe bar and restaurant which serves modern cuisine  using gourmet ingredients from local producers.

Across the road in Wellington Square you will find Blue Denim Cafe which has modern cafe food and gourmet pizza.  It caters for dine in and takeaway.

Wallan is also home to two newly opened Indian restaurants.  Thousand Spices and Curry Mahal both serve high quality Indian dine in or takeaway meals and easily compare in quality to the restaurants in Melbourne.

Also on offer is modern Italian cuisine from La Torre and Chinese from the Wallan Chinese and Noodle Gold takeaways.

If you’d like to travel a little further afield you can find superb Thai food at Epping Thai Restaurant and Thai Sontaya in Whittlesea.  Both towns are only around 20 minutes away.

One of our favourite places to go is Monteleone Restaurant in Donnybrook.  This fabulous place services Italian food made from local and home grown ingredients.  Their gourmet pizzas are delicious.

Of course, there are many other takeaway food places around, too.  You certainly won’t be hungry.

I can guarantee you that the dining choices in the Wallan area are varied and high quality.  Not only will you be able to relax here, you’ll be well fed, too.

Next time, we might just talk about picnics…..

Mini Fields of Women -October 16

Mini Fields of Woman are special event days where  people gather together to show support and pay tribute to women and their families affected by breast cancer.  The Breast Cancer Network says “They centre around a visual display of 100 Pink Lady silhouettes planted in the ground or on display, and often include a simple ceremony. Personal messages are displayed on the silhouettes by family and friends.”

There are so many of us who have experienced or been touched by breast cancer that we really wanted to do something to show how much we care.  So on Sunday 16th October we are holding our first ever Mini Fields of Women event.

We would really love it if you could come along and plant a silhouette in honour of the women you love who have been affected by this horrible disease.

I think the day is going to be wonderful.  Our farm is set on rolling hills with superb views and an air of relaxation that is therapeutic.  Can you imagine seeing a pink dotted hillside looking back at you?  This is an open event for anyone wishing to write a message to honour someone they know.

Date: Sunday October 16th 2011
Time: From 12.00pm – 2.00pm

This is a fundraising event and it’s our way of contributing to the ongoing fight against breast cancer.

There will be a BBQ Sausage Sizzle and Coffee Van.  All proceeds go towards Cancer Council and RMH Research Department.  We will also have BCNA merchandise available for purchase.   We’ve been helped along by some wonderful people who have donated not only their time, but some great things to raffle off.  For example: Grace Knight singer performer signed CD, Kate Cook singer T-shirt and CD signed, hamper of Avon goods to the value of $100.00, just to name a few.

There will be Pink Buns from Bakers Delight, sausage sizzle,  and delicious hot coffee available thanks to Cafe Amore.

I want to thank our sponsors very much:

Baker’s Delight Whittlesea – Cafe Amore
Barry Plant Wallan/Kilmore – Australia Post
Taylor’s Spit and Party Hire – Grace Knight (Australian Artist)
10 Cents Change (local band) – Kate Cook (Australian Artist)
