The Goulburn River High Country Rail Trail

The Goulburn River High Country Rail Trail is almost finished and when it opens in June, will be one of the longest rail trails in Australia.  It will stretch 134 kms in length.  It will starts at Tallarook and pass through Trawool, Yea, Molesworth, Alexandra, Yarck, Merton, Bonnie Doon, Maindample and finish in the beautiful town of Mansfield.

Originally there were 68 bridges along this disused rail line and while many of them are being repaired or replaced, some can’t be restored because of changes in regulations regarding their height.

The trail winds through some stunning landscape and there is a lot to see on the way,  Cheviot’s Tunnel, built in 1889, is the longest rail trail tunnel in Victoria.  In Yea you will pass the historic rail station, also built in 1889.  You can also walk or ride across the 385m bridge across part of Lake Eildon.

While the trail is not officially open, parts of it are able to be used. You’ll find more information at the rail trail site.

The rail trail will be a wonderful ride.  In case you need more convincing, just watch this video of the trail and you will be very pleased at what you see.

How to meditate in a moment

We know that you can’t always get away to Annies’s Cedar Farm Cottages just to take a break.  Sometimes there are commitments that hold you wherever you are.

One of the techniques that helps keep me centred and fight off stress is meditation but, like you, I don’t always get the time to do it properly.  Well, I thought I didn’t have the time until I accidentally tripped over this video while wandering around Youtube.  I watched the video and a little light went off.  It was one of those a-ha moments you hear about.

This clip shows us how to meditate in a moment.  I enjoyed it and immediately thought of you and how useful it might be in your life.  The basic idea is that we can train ourselves to find stress relief in short bursts of meditation.  No sitting still for hours at a time, this approach says that you can meditate at your desk or standing on the train.

If you are looking for the relaxation that a country retreat can give you but can’t get here, try the very simple technique shown here.  The clip only goes for 5 minutes and it’s well worth watching.

New YouTube Channel

Steve and I are pleased to tell you that we’ve now set up our very own YouTube channel.  In case you can’t tell, we’re a bit excited about it.   It’s one thing to talk about how wonderful things are here at Annie’s Cedar Farm Cottages: it’s a whole other matter when we can show you in pictures.

Over time we will add to the library of videos on our YouTube channel.  We’ll show you around the farm, show you the different seasons and what they do to our landscape, interview our visitors, talk to our special people like Leanne, the massage therapist.  You never know, we might even feature you one day.

In fact, let me ask you right now.  What would you like to see on the Annie’s Cedar Farm YouTube channel?   Leave us your ideas in the comments and we will start working on them for you.

We can’t wait to show you more of our wonderful cottage bed and breakfast get aways.

We have two videos on the channel now.  Expect more!

Here is the latest clip.  Enjoy it.
